30th Anniversary Matewan screening

Had a great weekend in West Virginia both at the West Virginia Filmmakers Festival, where I gave a presentation on Social Media for Filmmakers, and at the 30th Anniversary screening of MATEWAN.

During the day, the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum had a get together for miners and supporters of the museum to meet with filmmakers John Sayles and Maggie Renzi. In the background, they ran short documentary I produced for my graduate thesis – THEM THAT WORK.

Approximately 15 years ago, Maggie convinced me that someone needed to make a movie about those people who worked on MATEWAN … and that I should be the one to do it. She’s really persuasive. Well, I was convinced. I have been sitting on a full length version of the film because of some of the contested rights to the original movie. Maggie told me – then told the audience at the screening – that those issues have been resolved.

Thank you to everyone involved, but especially to Maggie and John.
